Winter in Hokkaido | Day 5(Part2),6,7: Otaru Music Box Museum, Otaru Canal, Skiing

by - July 29, 2017

-Read part 1 here-
After lunch, we headed to Otaru (小樽市 Otaru-shi), a harbour city located at Shiribeshi Subprefecture.
This photo of the Otaru Canal was probably taken in the bus. Look at the amount of people trying to take a photo there!

If you want me to pick my favourite city in Hokkaido I will most probably choose Otaru :'')

The bus driver let us down at one stop and we walked to one of the most famous attractions in Otaru, Japan's largest Music Box Museum.

Just some shots of the music boxes there taken by my dad/mum-
All of them are unique (and expensive), do be careful especially if you're carrying a big backpack.

The steam clock made by a Canadian clock maker, situated right in front of the Otaru Music Box Museum-

My mum wanted to go to the canal herself because it was quite far away and I was like what wait no I'm definitely walking with you! We're in Otaru how can we not visit the famous landmark, the Otaru Canal??
It was a long > 15 minutes walk, slippery floor and cold but WORTH IT ALL. But the sky was getting darker and the lights were on and the timing was kinda.. in between day & night :/

After grabbing some photos we walked allllllll the way back to meet my family. We went in LeTAO for this cheesecake and oh god it tasted so heavenly. ‎¥410 (~RM16) for this small slice of Double Fromage very reasonable for this masterpiece ok MUST TRY!! best cheesecake ever im in tears

These 2 shops are famous for their food souvenir as well-

Before boarding the bus, we ended our short but wonderful Otaru half day trip with the Rainbow Tower Ice Cream (¥550)! Mannn I would really love to spend more time here.

ALL FOR THAT INSTAGRAM POST HAHA
We took soooooo long to finish it but luckily it didn't really melt because it's in the winter heh. Can't imagine eating it in the summer it'll be a big mess o.o

The bus ride to our ski resort was approximately 2 hours. After checking in and having our dinner, we went to the bar (Japanese 居酒屋) right outside of the hotel wew

We were not here to drink lah but to eat the KOBE BEEF (ok although we drank). They were supposed to arrive the day before so that we can eat it during our bbq dinner but the snow was quite bad and there were flight delays so yea :/ bam few hundred gone LOL and I felt it could've tasted better but we couldn't cook it at the hotel cause they don't want to be responsible if anything happens (ie prevent from getting complaints if someone gets a stomachache but it might be due to the meat and not the chef)
I instantly turned red lmao and didn't dare to go to the onsen that night.

28 December 2016 (Wednesday)

Woke up early morning for skiing!!!!!! Mum was supposed to come with us but she was not feeling well and since it cannot be refunded, dad took over her slot (skiing expenses is excluded from the tour fees). Luckily he managed to change the size of the clothing and shoes because it was all pre-booked days before.

It took me very long to pose for a nice photo ok the moment I positioned the ski boots into the ski, I started sliding down lol because I was on a slope.
Everyone was dressed like this you won't even know who is who HAHAHA. The "unifom" was really thick and I was SWEATING inside.

Look at the top! No I did not ski all the way down from there ahaha
First skiing experience was amazingggg my balancing is quite good actually ahaha I don't have much problem skiing around and didn't fall at all! There's a ski lift but I don't think I'm good enough to ski from that height so I just carried the skis and poles all the way up the slope every time I skied down. IT WAS SO TIRING THE EQUIPMENT ISN'T LIGHT AT ALL. My muscles were aching so badly after that.

Next up my bucket list: to ski at Swiss Alps :p

We departed around noon for lunch at Sapporo, and this was taken at the toilet stop because it started snowing hahaha.

You'll get to hold this king crab at the entrance!!

I'm sure this is the most expensive meal out of all at Hokkaido (or maybe most expensive meal I've ever eaten throughout 19 years lololol)
King crab, abalone, scallop...

Uncle, don't play with your food la hahaha

The wet market downstairs-

After lunch, we had 3 hours to shop at the Sapporo Mitsui Outlet Park. The place is huge I would recommend you to look through the shop list, or better still, download their floor guide from their website if you have time constraints while visiting this place. Did not manage to capture the exterior because everyone was very ganjiong wanna shop LOL but anyways this money exchange machine is cool af bc it's my first time seeing it.

Our hotel for the last night is located at Kitahiroshima, around 30 minutes away from the airport because it would be easier to travel as our flight was in the early morning. The hotel is surrounded by a golf course.
They suddenly turned off the lights when we were almost done with dinner and there was a fireworks show that lasted for more than 5 minutes :'))) so beautiful.
The hotel that night was pretty nice as well because the onsen is really cool!! There was a glass walkway with led lights in different colours, and also a cool outdoor onsen and sauna. Gosh I just love outdoor onsens. Pictures can be found on their japanese website.

After our onsen, we had our yukata party! Dad's birthday was the day after and our tour guide bought him a cake! I'm sure it's not cheap ahaha and I finally get to try the Japanese ichigo (strawberry)!!

29 December 2016 (Thursday)
We had our packed breakfast in the bus because we had to leave the hotel around 6am.

After checking in, we did our last minute shopping at the airport.
Please get these when you're at the airport!!! They provide ice boxes as well and can last around 8 hours.
1) LeTAO's cheesecakes
They're famous for the Double Fromage (around ¥1600 ~RM60) that comes in a round wooden box, but we tried that at Otaru already so we bought this rectangular Parfait D'or Fromage (around ¥2300 ~RM90), a rich tasting cheesecake made from 3 types of cheese.
SO SO SO SO SO SO SO GOOD

2) Nama Chocolate from Royce
It's around ¥750 but the stores in Malaysia sells it for RM50++ :c
And not to forget, the assorted kit kats! We bought the melon, wasabi and sakura matcha flavours back.

The snowfall was heavy and we were stuck in the plane for an hour before taking off. Travelling during winter can be really risky mhmm.
Nonetheless, I will be back, Japan. You're truly a beauty.
