Korea Trip Day 2: Busan- Taejongdae Resort Park, Haedong Yonggungsa Temple, Haeundae Beach, Shinsegae Spa Land

by - January 03, 2016

26th December 2015

For this day, we decided to travel down to Taejongdae and to the eastern part of Busan. Taejongdae Resort Park is one of the most famous tourist spots here and hence a must-visit when you travel to Busan!
Directions: From Nampo station (Orange Line 1) exit 6, walk to the bus stop (it's located at the opposite street of Lotte Department Store), hop on bus number 8/30/88 and alight at Taejongdae Station. The bus ride takes around 35minutes.

We didn't have a proper breakfast before departing so we bought 2 of these hot dog bread from this ahjumma. [Korean street food #3]

There's no admission fee to the park but you can take a ride on the Danubi Train. The station is approximately a 10 minute's walk away from the bus stop.

Somehow the family package was not available when it was my turn to purchase the tickets. Maybe it's not applicable to foreigners as the family discounted price is not shown on the Japanese & Chinese side of the board.

Danubi Train Course:
Platform→ Taejongsa Temple →Observatory →Yeongdo Lighthouse → Gumyeongsa Temple → Taewon Jagal Madang → Platform

You can opt to walk around the park too but during winter..? maybe not. The train "speaks" in 4 languages so don't worry! You'll know which station you are at.You can just hop on and off the train as long as there's a place on the train and if you keep the ticket with you.

After alighting the train at the Yeongdo Lighthouse station, the lighthouse is nowhere to be seen lollll. We went up the building/ observatory deck(?), got some shots there and walked down a (long) trail down to the lighthouse. Walking down was okay but after running around for an hour or so plus climbing lots of stairs, I had a hard time climbing back up to the train station... #old

There's also this cruise run by private companies (you'll see them on your way from the bus stop to Taejongdae) where you pay ₩10000, if I'm not mistaken, to get a view of Taejongdae as it is situated on the cliffs.

Actress Choi Ji Woo's photographs in Busan are displayed there too! There're lots of them other than this one below. SHE'S SO PRETTY.

Yeongdo Lighthouse & Light Beyond Limitation

If you walk further down, you'll see these ahjummas selling seafood and people eating over there.

Sinseon Rocks.

The breeze was really, really strong over there.

Inside one of the floors of the lighthouse-

me @ the amount of stairs zzZz

There was nothing really special about the view from up there la so.. it wasn't really worth the climb :/

After coming down from the lighthouse and walking all the way up to the train(?) stop, we waited for about 15 minutes and here comes our trainnnnnnnnnnnnn

Grabbed some snacks at the stores located at the train's main platform. Apparently churros are quite popular in Korea because I see them being sold at most of the places I go.

To get back to Nampo Station from Taejongdae, get to the station at the opposite side from where you got down from previously and hop on to the bus with the same numbers or with the word 남포 (Nampo) on it.

After getting back to Nampo Station, we headed to the eastern part of Busan. Our first stop was Haedong Yonggungsa Temple.
Directions: Take a metro to Haeundae Station (Green Line 2), get out at exit 7, walk straight and you shall see a bus stop (2nd pic below), get on bus number 181 and get off at Yonggungsa Temple (용궁사).

From the station, you still need to walk like 15 minutes to reach the temple. Just follow the crowd/ this stone in the photo below. It's a really long UPHILL road.

the chinese zodiac

I personally didn't find the temple attractive in any way.. the journey there is really long (and uncomfortable standing in the bus for ~45minutes) plus it was wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too crowded. And I was too hungry to enjoy the sea view or whatever. I didn't even take a single photo over there lol.

We went into one of the shops to have a late late late lunch. Noodles soup & bibimbap.

Korean street food #4: Hweori Gamja (회오리 감자) aka the tornado potato.
IT WAS SO SO SO SO SO GOOD

After walking all the way out of the temple, we went to the bus stop at the opposite side from where we got down previously. We took the bus number 181 back to Haeundae station (an hour plus journey standing in the bus again) and went to the beach.
Directions: Walk straight for 600meters from exit 3 or 5 of Haeundae Station (Green Line 2)

There's nothing much to see at the beach at night but I think it'll be nice to be here in the morning.

The ice skating rink by the beach-

On the streets of Haeundae-

In the Haeundae subway station. When I say the love locks are everywhere in Korea, I really mean it. Spot the tiny lock in the photo below lololol

AND HERE COMES THE BEST PART OF BUSAN >>> JIMJILBANG!
If you are a fan of kdramas, you will come across this jimjilbang name aka the korean spa/ sauna. The one we went to is called Shinsegae Spa Land, located in the largest department store in the world, Shinsegae Department Store. It is located at the first floor of the mall.

Directions: Take the metro to Centum City Station (Green Line 2), I forgot which exit TT but the signboards there are clear so no worries! I remember turning left as going straight is going into Lotte Department Store.

The photos from my phone came out pretty bad.... so I decided to post those from the CNN article lol. I can't be holding my dslr walking around the spa snapping photos right.....
I think this is one of the most grand (and expensive) jimjilbangs in Korea. Plus we only had 4 hours inside whereas there's no time limit to other jimjilbangs and you can actually stay a night there. We went in around 8:30pm to enjoy the late night discount heh #moneysavingtip

After paying at the lobby, go one floor up and you shall see this entrance! There's a number on your receipt so go to the shoes locker, put your shoes inside and grab the key. After passing through the entrance, there's a counter for you to collect a set of clothing and two SMALL towels.
THE GRAND ENTRANCE
This is the ladies hot spring bath! You needa take off all your clothes at keep them at the locker before proceeding into the hot spring. Remember to take a shower before going down. (And yes all dem naked ladies running all over the place)

This open-air bath is really relaxinggggggggggggggg!!! It's only for the ladies though ahaha the weather is super chilly once you head outside but the hot spring is just ooooohhhh so so so so so good.

After dipping in the hot spring for like 20 minutes, we went out to the common area to meet daddy. He was quite reluctant to come to the jimjilbang actually because he will be alone hahaha. Anyways, we went sauna & hot steam room-hopping lol what term is this  The rooms have different themes each and they all have different purposes for the body eg to detox/ discharge wastes/ improves self-immune system etc. Most of the hot steam rooms are located at the Mezzanine level.
Bali Room
Roman room at 34.5°C
SEV room at 36°C
Pyramid room at 50°C
Salt room
Hardwood Charcoal room at 62.1°C

There's also the Body Sound Room and Wave Dream Room at 37.2°C, the Hammam Room at 34.4°C, the Yellow Ocher Room at 68°C the Fomentation Room at 70.4°C and the Ice Room at 15.5°C. (All the temperatures stated are according to the photos I took outside of the room so it might vary a little bit)

After all the sauna hopping, we headed outdoors, yes outdoors at night during winter at a temperature below 10°C. The Spa Land do provide some thin jackets though how nice! This is the huge oudoor foot bath--

Cafes, restaurants, event rooms and relax room is located at the second floor of the Spa Land. The relax room is where you can watch some tv... and maybe fall asleep on the couch.

After walking around exploring, we went back to the hot spring and had a nice dip inside. We only got to stay for 2 hours plus because we had to catch the last train back to the hotel T_T what a waste.

Here's my shameless selfie of me with the sheep head 양머리 (yangmeori) hahaha. I've been getting an uneven eye shape since day2-8 pffft.

Steps (taken from here):
1. Fold the bottom part of the towel 1/3 up.
2. Fold the top part of the towel 1/3 down.
3. Roll up the sides (left and right equally) like how you would roll up jeans.
4. Open it up and put it on your head.

I had lots of fun in Spa Land mannn please visit this place when you're in Busan!! I took out my lens because I was so afraid that it might melt inside my eyes lmao but I forgot to bring my glasses... idk if it's a good or bad thing - being half-blind for a few hours, not being able to look around this nice jimjilbang nicely / relieved that i don't needa look at all those naked bodies 1080p bcs so awkward HAHAHA
