College

by - May 31, 2015

WARNING: This is quite a lengthy post (but I still think it's kinda short because it's like 5 months' stuff summed up in 1 post). You can just scroll through all the crap and look at the photos k hehe.

It's been 5months in college already omg. 本来要写一篇关于orientation的,过后想想下summarise一个月的好一点,然后拖来拖去拖到现在才写一次过一个semester的事情 *oops*. 谢啦我最爱的junior们sharon, louainne等等我知道你等了很久哈哈哈. I hope none of my college friends is reading this omg the thought of it makes me feel so awkward hahahaha so please if you are, don't ever mention it to me lololol. Ok so back to the topic, college. FYI, I'm currently studying A-Levels at Methodist College Kuala Lumpur. (I've never heard about this college till like few months before spm and I never would have thought about studying here but it's really cheap to study here so yea)

Orientation was on the 2nd and 5th of January. It was so sad ok other schools and colleges started on the 12th, still enjoying their holidays whereas I'm in this totally new environment on the 2nd day of the new year :/ Bah, Bryan, Jessica and I are the only 4 sek4-ians studying here lol.

taken from the 4th floor of mckl during the first week lololol
Location: It's just a ~5 minutes walk from KL Sentral // just beside Tun Sambanthan monorail station // just beside Klang river // opposite Kuen Cheng chinese independent high school.

Transportation: It's pretty convenient over here and I know people from different different places. Most of my friends don't drive here (imagine being stuck in the jam every morning ew might as well just sleep in the train right). You definitely won't be alone while taking the monorail/ lrt (be it sri petaling or ampang or kelana jaya line)/ ktm/ bus etc. It may be not too convenient for people like me that lives in BK but the lrt here is going to be done by the end of the year right.

People: Everyone here is really friendly omg. There was once when I was in the lrt and 2 girls started talking to me and now we say hi to each other whenever we meet in college. Greeting most of the people I've talked to before eg my camp group facilitator, club seniors etc is a really normal and natural thing to do. OH AND everyone here is super smart and hardworking like omg.

Class: There are only 5 cohorts. Science 1, S2, S3, D (Double maths), M (mix eg science + arts) and A (Arts). For D, M and A, we don't have a specific class, as in we meet different people during different subjects as grouped by the college. Of course there is a small gang that has all 4 subjects in the same class. ((Cohort as in the students that takes similar subject combination and class as in ~30 people in class 1/2/3 of eg maths etc))

Classrooms: Our classes are held in different rooms, some have individual tables, some have 2 by 2 or more tables like in high school, some small classes have only the small table attached to the chair type. R306 and R410 are the coldest ones OTL (my biggest achievement is surviving in 410 without a jacket for 2 hours!!)

Notices: We no longer have 'perhimpunan' every morning before classes start. Therefore, we need to look out for notices about events/ workshops etc at the notice boards in the college. Some important notices will be sent to our emails too.

Food: There's a cafeteria with 3 stalls here and it's ~RM5 per day so basically we eat there most of the time. There are kopitiams mamaks oldtown etc etc and lots of food in nusentral (and of course more expensive) but we don't usually go out when we have only 1 hour of break.

Clubs/ Sports: There are lots of clubs here and it's not compulsory to join any of them. Eg leo, rotaract, music, photography, cf, engineering, pre-med, MUN, economics and the list goes on. For sports, the typical football basketball badminton, and there's also frisbee, captain ball, rock-climbing, fitness, netball etc.

Dress Code: Sadly, yes there's a dress code for us to follow. Short skirts and pants (anything above the knees), slippers (sandals WITH straps around the ankle is fine) are not allowed, the guard will stop you from entering the college if you do so. Shorts are allowed during sports. Lanyards with student id must be worn over the neck while entering the college.

Facilities: The student here play all sorts of sports here during break time and the balls can be borrowed from the student council room. There's also a piano, ping pong tables and foosball tables in the recreation room. Oh and FOC lockers!! As long as you apply asap and you'll get one! You can't choose your locker though sobs mine is actually at the 4th floor..

Our MPU lecturer asked if any of us wants to volunteer to raise funds for the flood victims, and my group agreed to it because we thought that we might be able to skip the upcoming drama presentation thing lololol. And when we were discussing half way, another group came to us because they wanted to join (and for the same reason as us lmao). We got to skip not only 1 but around 5(?) other group presentation/ drama stuffs HAHAHA that one whole week of fundraising was so worth it. Glad to know them because they are all really nice peopleee :D

There's this Orientation Camp thing which is compulsory for every mckl student. You "don't need to" pay for it because it's included in the activities fees *coughs* There's 3 camps for the jan-intake, and we were assigned to our camps according to our cohort. It's a really good platform to make new friends (what i really need!!) and bond with people.

30th Jan - 1st Feb
The camp was held at Refreshing Springs Resort (some really kampung place with really weak signal, around an hour+ bus journey from mckl). It was such a relieve when I found out that I have friends in the same bus phew (neh the ones in the prev photo^). The theme of our camp is Music, so our group names are according to music genres like classical, r&b, kpop, bollywood, rap etc. And yes I have 3 classmates in the same group ;;; (you know, less awkward and more people to talk to). S3 and D cohort and CAT program people are assigned to camp 3. FYI, D cohort is full of guys esp in further maths class. Therefore, there's only like one third of girls in the camp, only 2-3 girls in each group.

The first day there was pretty sad bcs it raineddddddddd D; our night activity there was canceled and all of us went back to the multi-purpose hall and ew i still remember the hall stinks ALOT.
*1 person changes into superman tee*
"Eh i brought this too!"
"I shall join you guys too!"
ahaha

Guess what? Surprisingly my dorm mates brought maths homework to camp HAHAHA i thought i was the only one lmao. And almost everyone in my dorm was doing maths hw during the first night i'm not even kidding. What to do Mrs Wong gave us so much complex numbers stuff.
hi mae ann hehehe

2nd day of the camp, after some talk we were given a few hours of free time and yeahhhhhhhhhh hot springggggg! Although the weather was kinda hot but we don't have anything else to do so yea.... This is definitely the best part of the camp heh
spot the girls to boys ratio lololol

2nd night of the camp, wanted to try out the chicken chop at the warung but it was sold out :< but we ate lots of junk food and also 3 different brands of sour cream & onion chips LOL ((and ran back to our dorms right before the curfew))

Third day, I actually don't really remember what happened lah lol it will be super detailed if I wrote this few months ago. Anyways, it was some team building activities and stuff and yea we tried out the raft we built the day before (actually ~90% built by Jon).

28th of May
"This will be my last day here."
oh wtf it was soooooooooooo unexpected. We couldn't even give him a proper farewell T_T although he is fussy and has major mood swings at times lol but he is a really good lecturer. Some of us got so teary when he left ah shyt so gonna miss his stories and lame jokes.

Spot the new label omg College. 'High School Life' will end there with 20 posts :/
Things are so different in college I really miss high school.
:<

The next post about college will be up during the next semester break I guess, which is in December lololol. ((Unless if there's alot to post and I have extra time in the next few months then you might see another one)) Thanks for reading! xx
